Project Userfull
Reaching the Next Level Together
Userfull is an IT consultancy firm based in Boom, focused on delivering effective, human-centered IT solutions for businesses. Partnering with Toontjeshuis, Userfull is helping shape the future for people with disabilities.
Toontjeshuis designs living centers where happiness and quality of life are paramount. Each resident will have a private studio equipped with innovative technologies. As the IT partner, Userfull assists in creating an IoT-cloud platform/Smart hub that is accessible to people in need of care, enabling them to live independently.
Project Scope
Each studio will feature various interaction modalities, focusing on a wall-mounted screen accompanied by physical buttons. The goal is to seamlessly integrate devices such as a TV, computer box with physical buttons, and a camera. The challenge was to design and 3D-print a unified enclosure that elegantly conceals the computer box, camera, and cabling, creating a cohesive unit.
Design Options
Depending on the choice of computer box, two solutions were provided:
- ReTerminal: If the ReTerminal control box is used, a 3D-print design is required to integrate the ReTerminal, camera, and cables into a single, aesthetically pleasing unit.
- Raspberry Pi: If opting for the Raspberry Pi, the design includes creating an enclosure from scratch, along with four personalized buttons for ease of use by residents.
Key Considerations
Every design must function flawlessly. The 3D-printed enclosure should not obstruct the camera's view, must be durable, and allow easy access for maintenance or replacements. The buttons should be intuitive and serve their intended functions effectively.
Conclusion
The collaboration between Userfull and Toontjeshuis reflects the commitment to enhancing the lives of people with disabilities through technology, ensuring they can live independently and comfortably in their own homes.
